An opera based on the true story of beloved illustrator Ilon Wikland's life.
There is concern in the country. Ilon and her dog move to a grandmother who lives in a small town by the sea. The war breaks out and she has to flee the country alone. The bag is packed and she ends up on a boat and a trip over a stormy sea. Exhausted, she comes to Sweden, the safety, and her colorful aunt. During the war, Ilon was allowed to leave her crayons, but now the colors and the drawings come back.
The long, long journey is an opera based on a children's book by Rose Lagercrantz, inspired by the illustrator Ilon Wikland's life and fleeing from Estonia during World War II. Ilon Wikland is one of our most beloved illustrators, mainly known for the drawings in Astrid Lindgren's books. Librettot is written by Unga på Operan's dramaturg Sigrid Herrault and the music by Johan Ramström. The director is Ellen Lamm who has directed, among other things, What is money? and Jane Eyre on the Dramaten.
The performance is a collaboration between Norrbotten music, Piteå Kammaropera and the Royal Opera in Stockholm in a new, tour-adapted version of the moving story and true story of Estonian illustrator Ilon Wikland who made a success in Stockholm in spring 2017.
The performance is aimed at children between 7 and 9 years. The long long journey is part of the NMD network.
