Jean Sibelius's violin concert is the most recorded and performed by all 1900's violin concerts. Under the direction of the orchestra's chief conductor Eva Ollikainen, you will meet the violinist Clara-Jumi Kang, a real star on the classic music scene.
Clara-Jumi Kang was born in Germany and grew up in a musician family. Already as a three-year-old she started playing violin and the following year she started at Mannheim Musikhochschule, accepted as the youngest student ever. At the age of six, she was on the cover of the German newspaper Die Zeit and at the age of seven she was accepted to the Juilliard School. Clara-Jumi Kang has won numerous awards, including Tibor Varga Violin Competition 2007, Seoul Violin Competition 2009 and first prize at The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis 2010.
Together with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, she presented Sibelius's violin concerto, one of the most beautiful and best performed violin concerts in the 20th century. At the conductor desk, the orchestra's chief conductor Eva Ollikainen, who was already 21 years old, won 2003 Jorma Panula competition for conductors. Nowadays she lives in Denmark and conducts guest orchestras in the USA, Japan and Europe.
Clara-Jumi Kang plays on an Antonio Stradivarius "ex-Strauss" from 1708.
