A moving play about man's creative ability to survive.
Bassel is humble, charming and kind-hearted. An ordinary man living an ordinary life. But a civil war rages in the background and one day his brother disappears. Bassel is tasked with finding him and the search leads him through the war-torn country. Soon he is faced with moral dilemmas, choices and situations that would otherwise be unthinkable. The audience is involved in every decision Bassel makes and follows him all the way on the journey.
Amer Hlehel is considered one of the Arab world's leading actors. This autumn he will come to Sweden for a tour with the play Hoota at the Riksteatern. It will be a moving play about human creativity to survive. How much are we really prepared to sacrifice our morals to survive ourselves and to save our loved ones?
He is award-winning, celebrated and popular. Actor and playwright Amer Hlehel has a masterful ability to mix deepest seriousness and glowing commitment with finely balanced humor. His internationally successful play TAHA, which struck a chord with audiences as well as reviewers and fellow actors, has previously toured with the Riksteatern. Now Amer Hlehel is coming back to Sweden and the Riksteatern with his new play Hoota, where we get to follow the character Bassel on an upheaval journey.
Responsible for the direction is the internationally recognized director and playwright Amir Nizar Zuabi, who in 2020 created the acclaimed play Ravinen for the Riksteatern and who also directed Amer Hlehel's play TAHA. Directed by Amir Nizar Zuabi, Hoota highlights an uncomfortable truth - how we compromise our humanity and morality in order to survive and save those closest to us.
The play is performed in English or Arabic with subtitles in Swedish.
